In Florida, we find ourselves directly in the path of super storms and hurricanes. Often times, we are faced with the difficult decision
on whether to stay or to flee. For IRN the decision to evacuate is not one that has a major impact to our business’ core function. At IRN we like to eat our own dog food. This means we live and breathe in the world that we recommend for your business because we believe in it. As a result, IRN lives in the clouds. Cloud computing is computer hardware and software functionality available to you through the Internet. Our data centers were out of Irma’s path and reliability throughout was never questioned. Before the storm, during the storm and after the storm, all of us were able to telecommute in some way and we never missed a beat.
In the days following the storm, our main goal was to be there for all of you because, like us, we knew you were anxious to get back to work and normalcy after the hectic week preceding the storm. Our main office, located in Indialantic, lost power and multiple internet circuits post Irma. Our homes were in similar situations but with the help of all that technology we know and love, we were able to communicate and support you in every way we could. Our service manager Tonya, who fled to her family’s cabin in Georgia, had to drive around in order to use her mobile hotspot. Richard, who has a fun story of his car being hit by a deer, was hunkered down in a hotel in Mississippi. Meghan drove south towards the storm and well, we’re just glad she made it back at all. Some of us got power and internet back shortly, while others, like myself went upwards of 10 days with no power and squatted at Katy’s for internet access. You likely either heard my dog barking or my toddler crying in the background if I helped you. Next hurricane we’re all staying with Brent or Dylan, since neither of them ever lost power or internet!
Regardless of our own personal situations, we always gathered as a team for our morning meeting to discuss your needs and your statuses. We utilized video conferencing and chat, among the hundreds of emails flying around our world in order to stay as connected as possible. No matter where we were in the world – IRN was in the cloud, and for that week we all lived there.
